Michael DiRaimo was appointed Special Assistant to the President on January 1, 2012, after having first served as Penn State's Director of State Relations and then Director of Governmental Affairs. Michael is a native of Erie County and earned both his Bachelor ('79) and Master of Arts ('98) degrees in History from Penn State. He began his professional career in 1981 as a research and legislative assistant to the late James J. Manderino, Democratic Leader and later Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representative, and has spent most of his career in and around Pennsylvania State Government representing several educational institutions. Michael returned to Penn State in 1998 to study Education Leadership and Higher Education Administration, and shortly thereafter joined the staff of the Office of Government Affairs.

Michael and his wife Jackie reside in nearby Ferguson Township and have two children, Danielle Brashers of Media, PA and Michael Jr., both graduates of Penn State.
