As Pennsylvania’s sole land grant university, Penn State has a unique partnership with the commonwealth. Time and again Penn State has reaffirmed its commitment to the land grant mission of teaching, research, and service to the commonwealth and its residents. 

The facts speak for themselves: A strong Penn State means a strong Pennsylvania – economically, socially, and culturally. 

Penn State’s impact 

• • Contributes $11.6 billion to the state’s economy  
  • Directly or indirectly responsible for 105,000+ jobs 
  • Largest alumni network in the world – 390,000 in Pennsylvania alone  
  • 20,000 annual graduates with more than half staying in Pennsylvania  
  • $1 billion in research expenditures which employs thousands of Pennsylvanians  
  • 21 Invent Penn State entrepreneurial hubs within 30 miles of 96% of PA residents, which have helped to launch 278 new PA companies 
  • World-class health care system with a $6.9 billion economic impact supporting more than 17,500 essential jobs 
  • Agricultural presence in all 67 counties supporting PA’s #1 industry 

However, despite all that Penn State gives back to Pennsylvania communities, our students are still underfunded compared to their in-state peers. In fact, Penn State students receive between $2,600-$3,400 less than their peers at other public universities in Pennsylvania.  

That is why our 2023-24 state appropriation request includes a 47.6% increase to our General Support funding – we simply want the Commonwealth to fairly fund Penn State and our students.  

We encourage all Penn State supporters to sign our petition to speak up for Penn State students and help us send a message to Harrisburg that our students deserve fair funding.  

The more advocates that sign on, the more influence we can have with the new legislature and governor’s administration.
