OGCR Internship Spring 2025

THE PENN STATE OFFICE OF GOVERNMENT AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS (OGCR) SEEKS AN INTERN FOR THE SPRING 2025 SEMESTER.

The internship provides a unique opportunity for the student to work directly with the University’s federal, state, local, and advocacy professionals, as well as learn more about the interaction between governments and the University via the OGCR. Seniors and juniors are preferred. The internship is paid and course credit is available (up to 3 credits, or 10 hours per week).

Possible duties include:

  • Learn the federal and state budget processes through research on University priority programs
  • Conduct searches of various legislation and research how they impact the University
  • Attend meetings of OGCR staff and University leadership
  • Take notes on Congressional and General Assembly hearings of interest to the University
  • Research local issues in municipalities that affect Penn State campuses
  • Update documents that will be shared with legislative stakeholders
  • Develop content for one-page summaries of key issues
  • Update database of key government issues
  • Learn how to grow and maintain an advocacy network using management software
  • Compile articles for regular newsletters
  • Understand effective communication engagement strategies
  • Work with data analytics to optimize messaging and measure success
